Update from Sitruce (Summer 2016 intern!!!)

This is Sitruce. This is a very exciting summer for me as I am interning at the Jews for Jesus NYC branch for Camp Gilgal (Woot Woot!) This is my second week as the intern and I’ve been really busy (and having a lot of fun). This is my first real living away from home experience and it has taught me a lot so far. First of all grocery shopping is not as easy as it looks, there are way too many choices! Secondly time management is a very important skill to learn, especially when you are juggling trying to finish college finals, interning for camp, and babysitting. The internship has been great and really fun so far. I get to see the inner workings of how camp is made and all the effort that Sox and Strings put into making camp so great. Next week Red Sox and I are driving to Pennsylvania to scout out the adventure camp canoe trip. We will be spending 2-3 days on the water canoeing and trying to find cool stuff along the way for us to do during adventure camp. Please pray for good weather and stay tuned for more updates! We can’t wait to share the details for this Adventure Camp with you! #registerearly #registeroften

Gearing up (literally) to scout adventure camp

Hey Camp Gilgal!

It’s Sox here and I wanted to give you a little bit of an update on the camp preparations. Did you know that whether it is for Junior Camp, Teen Camp, or Adventure Camp the staff is looking forward to camp almost as much as our campers are?!?!

Next week, Sitruce and I are headed to the Delaware River Water Trail to scope out Adventure Camp 2016 (woot woot!) I think that I probably say this about every Adventure Camp trip, but the canoe trip is my absolute favorite, so I am excited to get an extra one in this year. As a camper, the canoe trip was my first time doing any kind of serious camping and I was so surprised by how much I loved it. This was more than ten years ago (an eternity when it comes to technology!)  so I didn’t have a cell phone and I definitely didn’t have a smart phone, but even still leaving behind technology was a big deal.

I think the thing that I like the most about the canoe trip and look forward to the most about it, is that for a week we are totally a team. Whether camper or staff, veteran or first timer, we are literally all in the same boat…ok corny I know, but it is true. Everyone has to paddle, everyone has to help cook, everyone has to help clean. When we finish the week, we finish the trip together. I. LOVE. THIS. TRIP. I’m no athlete and I’m not so crazy about the outdoors (I live in New York City), but this trip is the closest to a team sport that I get to play. It is unbelievably beautiful and we go out of our way to make sure that the food is also unbelievably tasty.

If you are 15,16,17, or 18 I want to ask you to consider joining us for Adventure Camp 2016. I don’t want you to miss out! We’re looking to take about 5 guys and 5 ladies and still have space but it will likely fill up. Don’t miss out!!! #registerearly #registeroften #registernow
